WHAT IS IT?

* Partnership between Town Centre stakeholders to manage town centre crime & disorder
* Partnership to obtain 'SAFER BUSINESS AWARD' accreditation for town centre from Home Office

HOW DOES IT WORK?

* By identifying & targeting the most persistent town centre offenders ( from both the daytime & night time economy )
* Through introducing of a formal information sharing scheme between the police & traders
* Access by traders to police photos & information
* A very proactive working partnership
* The management of a robust, effective exclusion scheme
* Income from subscription fees & rental of storenet radio system

ABERDARE PILOT SUCCESSES TO DATE.

* In the first year the scheme reduced shop theft by 23.7% ( 61 incidents) & commercial burglaries by 15.6% (7 burglaries)
* By the second year improved identification & reporting of criminal activity by traders & their teams increased the number of reported incidents from 111 to 229.
* Retail traders were reporting reductions in stock losses ( store A from 3.4% to sales in 2005 to 0.9% to sales in 2006). Nearly all members were reporting stock losses below their targets.
* 65 Exclusion orders served in 2 years banning criminals from town centre premises. 1 anti social behaviour order served because of intelligence gathered by members.
* PUBWATCH schemes established in both Aberdare & Mountain Ash town centres
* Feedback from both retail / night time staff & customers that Aberdare now a safer town centre

* Target & reduce graffiti, criminal damage & street violence
* Roll out scheme through RCT & Heads of the Valley region
